Germany’s Daniel Deusser and French horse Hooligan de Rosyl won Jumping Bordeaux’s Prix France Info/France Bleu this afternoon after completing a faultless jump off in a lightening 36.54 seconds. This 4th International Test (against the clock) began with 36 riders and had 11 riders advance to the jump off. Second to last to start, Deusser had the advantage of seeing the incredibly fast, faultless rounds of Belgium’s Ludo Philippaerts and South Africa’s Oliver Lazarus, whose 36.60 seconds was the time to beat. Normally it has been French riders who have searched for quality horses in Germany, but it seems the tide is turning as French horses lead many foreign riders to victory. The best example is Australia’s Edwina Alexander, world #4, whose enjoys a long string of victories with Ithot du Château. Deusser’s Hooligan de Rosyl was a 2005 World Cup finalist with Bruno Broucqsault, the only Frenchman to ever win a World Cup Finale (2004 with Dilème de Cèphe). Later, Broucqsault couldn’t resist when Holland’s Jan Tops offered to buy the horse for his young prodigy, Deusser. Today’s jump off was designed to thrill the audience with a long gallop between the last vertical jump and the final oxer. “Yes, it was rather fast and it wasn’t very pretty to watch, but he won. He’s a horse who really wants it and for that reason wants to go very fast,” Deusser said. Although Hooligan is only the 2nd best horse of Deusser, he was incredible this afternoon. Air Jordan Z, the rider’s best horse, will accompany Deusser in tonight’s World Cup. The German has different ambitions for his French stallion. When asked if Hooligan could prove successful at 1m60, Deusser said, “He has already proved his greatness. He’s a special horse who loves to jump, but his tendency to go too fast makes him not risky for championships.” In his element today, the French Hooligan was a champion.
